The history
The Hamburg barge "Meeuw" is a true maritime Hamburg style icon. It was built in 1920 at the Krupp shipyard in Kiel. Partly welded, partly riveted. In Hamburg she was used to transport shipyard workers to the docks. In 1970, she was sold to a Rotterdam shipping company and towed barges in the harbor.
In 2020, I bought the ship and had it lovingly restored at the SRF shipyard in Harlingen.

The ship has seating for 6-8 people in the forward cabin area. A small folding table is perfect for winetasting in the harbor or during a quiet cruise. All ceilings are new and equipped with LED lamps. There is an air conditioning cabinet in the bow. With a little skill, the front cabin can also be converted into a sleeping cabin.
At the rear is a U-shaped bench with a small side table. The main table is made of solid premium wood and can be folded so that it is easy to walk past.
The entire floor is made of solid oak and is original.
We carried out a thickness measurement and the hull is still between 3.5 and 5 mm thick on average after 120 years.
To improve maneuverability, we had an electric Quick bow thruster installed.
To give the ship an elegant line, yacht architect Olivier van Meer designed his own folding mast.
The Meeuw is now equipped with a SIMRAD G4 radar and radio.
You will receive new lines and fenders on delivery.

The Gardener company builds the finest English marine engines and is still active today.
A novelty at the time was that a small rocker arm between the 2 and 3 cylinder block allowed the ship to run on 2 cylinders.
Today, the ship runs on environmentally friendly, synthetic care diesel from Neste and produces 80% less toxic environmental gases. We have also had the oil changed and new filters fitted. The engine starts immediately and reaches its maximum speed at 1500 rpm. We have embalmed the entire inner ship, also known as the bilge, with wool wax grease. No more corrosion will occur there.
The bilge pumps are also new.
